Who Are We?
Arts in Transit
(AIT) is a community partnership program of Metro. AIT furthers Metro's mission of "regional economic development through excellence in transportation" by enhancing transit environments and building community partnerships through public art, urban design, and community and economic development initiatives.
AIT plays a key role in the Cross County MetroLink Project by coordinating the involvement of artists on the design collaboration team. In addition, AIT consults with the artists to identify opportunities for temporary and permanent public art projects and community partnerships. AIT then issues Calls for Entries, and works with the community and design professionals to select projects which excel in aesthetic, technical and conceptual merit, and in their integration into the neighborhood, spatial and historical context. The first temporary public art projects associated with the Cross County MetroLink expansion began in Fall 2001.
Arts in Transit opportunities for public art with the Cross County MetroLink Extension include: open calls, invitational requests for proposals, and community collaborations. Artist opportunities, as well as other information about the organization, will be posted as they become available at
www.artsintransit.org.
